3 Web sites for my brain:  New York Times, TheDailyBeast and Mediapost

What I'm reading now:  "Buyology: Truth and Lies About Why We Buy"

3 things I do to rest my brain:  Read (mainly murder mysteries and espionage thrillers), Exercise (swim, ride my bike, walk the dogs), and Drive around with my top down (the car, not me personally)

5 Strengths (Clifton’s Strengths Finder):  Strategic, Achiever, Competition, Significance, and Input

Favorite Quote:  "I have always believed that writing advertisements is the second most profitable form of writing. The first, of course, is ransom notes." --Philip Dusenberry

Most interesting thing I've learned recently:  DuMont, which was arguably the 1st television network, pioneered a number of programming 1st's.  The situation comedy, the soap opera and the game show all debuted on DuMont.  They were also the 1st network to air commercials. (Until then, the radio model of program sponsorships was employed by advertisers.)  So why isn't the network a household name today alongside ABC, CBS and NBC?   A root cause of DuMont's early demise was lack of capacity.    In the early days of TV, network programming was fed to the affiliates via phone lines (co-axial cable) by AT&T and there wasn't enough band-width to go around.  Because DuMont didn't own a radio network like CBS and NBC, they were relegated to 2nd tier status by AT&T.  In turn, this strangled their growth and they folded in the '50s.

In 2010, I’m most looking forward to… staying on the leading edge of change as the way that we define and consume media continues to evolve at a break-neck pace

My favorite PROFESSIONAL memory of the last decade is…
the day in 2006 that I joined Thompson & Company.

My favorite PERSONAL memory of the last decade is…  helping to rescue a stray dog, Buddy, off the streets of Memphis in 2007.  One of her pups, Ginger, has been a member of our household for the past two years.
